Keeping breeding work moving throughout the year

Greenhouses have become an important part of Jiaqi’s quinoa breeding program. At Jingle Quinoa Industrial Park in Shanxi, the company conducts year-round quinoa crossing, generation advancement and comparisons of breeding materials, reducing seasonal constraints and supporting a more continuous breeding workflow.

Completing a generation in 90 days

According to Jiaqi’s breeding practice, quinoa can complete one generation in 90 days under the greenhouse conditions and material-management arrangements used by the company. This shorter generation cycle reduces waiting time between generations, bringing progeny into the next round of observation, comparison and selection sooner and substantially accelerating breeding progress.

Connecting greenhouse work with field selection

From making crosses to advancing generations and comparing materials, greenhouse facilities support continuity across key stages of breeding. Together with field selection, greenhouse breeding has become an integral part of Jiaqi’s work to develop new quinoa varieties.
